Pic of the week: #23

This week Joseph saw snow for the first time but was totally unbothered... I don't blame him as it was pretty lame where we are in Kent and it didn't settle. I took him into our conservatory (we never go in there) and we looked out of the many windows but he was more interested in my cacti and succulent collection, and crawling (of the commando kind still).

We made it to a couple of baby groups this week and a Water Babies class, and I spoke to people I'd not spoken to before because my go-to person (and mother to Joseph's girlfriend) wasn't there. It was a bit of an achievement for me as I find baby groups quite hard as I'm not much of a conversationalist. I'll happily question and listen other people about themselves/their babies but I never feel I have much to say myself. I suppose I'm quite happy to focus my end of the conversation on Joseph, which may be a bit dull for others I guess. I dunno. Urgh! Cringe! The hot topic seems to be 'returning to work'- can't remember if I've said this already but I applied for four days per week at my work and got it approved (Wednesdays off), but so many mums I've spoken to want 2-3 days a week (if at all) that I feel kinda bad about going back for four days. I'll just have to see how it goes when I do go back and if changes need to be made then I'll have to reassess although I won't be able to apply for less days at my work until January next year. Hmm. It's so tough. There are so, so many issues around returning to work -financially, emotionally, career-ily, and baby-ly, that it is just incredibly heart and gut-wrenching to come to a conclusion about what to do. And I wonder whether everyone has doubts about whether they made the right choice. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Back into a lighter note and to do with socialisation again... I took part in my first #mblogchat for 45 minutes on Friday night (whilst having a bath as Ruari went on a stag weekend) and now have lots more blogs to check out asap... Go me with all this socialisation!

So, my favourite photo was probably on snow day (Tuesday) as I took some sweet photos of Joseph on our bed. This is a bit of an 'Instagram vs reality' situation as in reality one of our cats had jumped up on the bed behind Joseph without him noticing but because my  room was messy/ wardrobe was open/ cat was blurry, I cropped it to show just the spectacle fiend. So here are both shots unedited vs edited.

So there it is... I am currently at my mum's house. Joseph is asleep in my mum's arms at a completely 'wrong' time of day for his routine (it's 6.40 so he should have had his bath by now and be having his last bottle of the day), but I don't think he is 100% at the mo. He's been happy all day long and slept for 13.5 hours straight last night, but he's only had 3oz of formula, a few spoonfuls of porridge, some scraps of toast/egg sandwiches, but two super-smooth Ella's Kitchen pouches. WTF?!

Hope you've had a good weekend! xxx

P.S. I'm linking up to #mummymonday &#maternitymondays for the first time!

  1. Aww waht a cutie, lovely pic :) Congrats for getting the days at work you wanted, always a relief. DOn't worry too mucha bout what other mummies are doing, it's got to be what is best for you! Like you say there are so many variables to take into consideration that we shouldn't compare - though I know we always will! I do and yes I have questioned my decision time and again! Monkey is 2 1/2 and I am happy with the decision I made but who knows how I will feel as LM grows up. Thanks for linking with #MaternityMondays xx Oh and well done for talking at the baby group - they can be such hard places to strike up a conversation!

    1. Hi Caroline, sorry for the slow reply - still getting the hang of this! Thank you for your lovely comment. You're so right about the variables and not comparing - it doesn't make sense to when you think about it! Comforting to hear you've questioned your decision too! xx

  3. Thanks so much for linking up to #MummyMonday and would love to see you again! And it was lovely to have you at #mblogchat. It can be tough talking to other mums sometimes especially when your used to chatting to people you know. going back to work or going through the sorting out going back to work process can be such a faff. I'm back at uni which is 3-3.5 days a week which isn't soo bad! xx
