Pic of the week: #28

We've been in Goa all of this week and we started making our journey home early on Sunday morning, Goan time, so late Saturday night British time. I am drafting this whilst on the flight and I can't tell you how relieved I'll be to set foot on soil again. I've never experienced the turbulence that we did on the Goa-Mumbai flight, and even the Mumbai-London flight has been riddled with air pockets. At one point some of the fellow passengers squealed and the flight attendants all lost their balance and flung empty wrappers across the plane. I've lost count of the number of times the 'fasten seatbelt' lights have come on and we've been asked to return to our seats and not use the toilets over the tannoy. My nerves are in absolute bits, and the thought of ever flying again is going through me!

Thankfully Joseph has coped brilliantly with the flights, although he has managed to pick his moments of restlessness- right when I just need a moment to get a grip, literally. He's been asleep for the majority of this ten hour flight, but when we arrive it'll be British bed time.... And I don't think he'll sleep. But I'd rather it this way round even though I'm exhausted. For the few hours he was awake for this flight he just wanted to crawl and climb, which isn't really practical or safe on a plane. I've not been able to sleep for the turbulence- every time I feel a bump or the wings adjust their (dunno whats), I break into a cold sweat. The only thing that's made me smile all this time has been when the flight attendants unexpectedly brought out Feast ice creams. I have managed to read a couple of chapters of Lean In, finally, and I watched Silver Linings Playbook but I didn't enjoy it. Joseph slept in the in-flight bassinet for around an hour earlier but has much preferred using Ruari as a pillow and managed a couple of respectable stints in the Tula. He seems to almost instinctively know when to suck his thumb for the ascents and descents and the only thing that seems to bother him is the fact he's being held down.

My battery died so I'm writing the rest  of this post safe in the comfort on my living room whilst Joseph naps. We made it home, thank GOD, late last night and I was too shattered to finish writing. Joseph had a bottle of milk before bed after kicking up a stink at is changing his pyjamas. He slept from 11.30pm- 3.30am and had more milk and a short play in the living room before going back to sleep until 6.30am. I have a good feeling that it may be quite easy to get his routine back on track. I can't believe how much he's slept in the last 24 hours, but I'm not complaining- it's been perfect. But we'll see how tonight goes!

I think I need to re-think these posts as I always bang on about things irrelevant to my picture of the week, but, anyway, I've chosen this one of Joseph in his new outfit that I bought for a few quid at the flea market in a place called Anjuna. It was soft and light - just perfect for the weather out there which averaged at around 29 degrees. I just had to nip to the car and, my God, it's cold back in Blighty and I'm sad to be swapping sun hats for wooly hats again but obviously grateful that I got to get some sun at all. Will write soon and am looking forward to catching up on lots of blogs!
